#The Knotch Measurement Unit
Gauge the impact of articles and video content with the Knotch Measurement Unit, a question-based sentiment tool. Our Measurement Platform combines the qualitative data from the Unit with passive page analytics to provide a detailed picture of your content efforts.
#Create a Knotch Unit
Our Unit Generator guides you in creating a perfect Unit for the content you want to measure. The Unit can be a visible "Feedback Unit", and survey the audience, or an "Invisible Unit", which just measures passive analytics around the content. Feedback Units let you choose a question in any predefined language, and select a background color or image. Then, you choose what happens after the visitor answers the Unit's question. Based on the sentiment to their answer, the Unit can display a message, link to a page for retargeting, or ask a follow up question.
Once generated, you can integrate the Knotch Measurement Unit in multiple ways. If you choose iframe, simply add the tag where you want the Unit to appear. For a Javascript tag integration, include the script tag to the head of the page, then add the placeholder in your desired location. To measure the performance of video content, add the data-Knotch attribute to the video element already present on the page.
#Feedback Unit versus Invisible Unit
A Feedback Unit will appear as a Knotch Sentiment Tool in the page, prompting visitors with a question. If the visitor responds, the desired end state configured in the generator will be rendered.
In general, a Feedback Unit will capture specific interaction based metrics, such as:
- Time to Interact
- Sentiment Based Response
An Invisible Unit, however, will not render anything for the visitor. Various passive analytic metrics will still be collected, including:
- Page and Unique Views
- Time on Page
- Time Playing Video
- Referrer Source
- Device and Browser Type
- Page Scroll Depth
- Visitor Geolocation
- Third Party Demographic Insights
#Content Types
#Article
Adding a Knotch Measurement Unit to the end of a piece of content helps evaluate the impact it had on your audience. If you chose to use a Javascript tag, it will appear where the placeholder was added.
#Video
The Knotch Measurement Unit will appear once the video ends, measuring the amount of video played. If a Feedback Unit is added, it will be displayed at the end of the video. If an Invisible Unit is used instead, everything will be measured silently.
If a user has responded to the Feedback Unit and replays the video, the Unit will not appear again.
#Type of Implementation
#Iframe Unit
Iframe units are rendered in a nested browser context, and are more secure by definition. By limiting the execution context of the Knotch Measurement Unit, iframes ensure that the Unit won't be able to interact with the parent context. These restrictions, however, constrain Knotch from measuring data metrics such as Scroll Depth, Referrers, Viewability, etc…
#JavaScript Tag Unit
A Javascript Tag is rendered within the context it is included. Depending on the integration, it may have access to the parent context and full page. Javascript Tag Units allow Knotch to directly observe what the visitor is doing within the page, enabling the collection of the full Measurement data set.
